Welcome to ZES English Academy. I believe English learning works best when students feel comfortable speaking, understand their goals, and receive teaching that fits their level.

For more than nine years in South Korea, I have taught learners from young children and school students to adults and working professionals. Every ZES class is planned around practical communication, steady progress, and personal attention.

A learning path for young learners

Build listening, speaking, reading and writing through structured lessons, vocabulary practice and familiar everyday topics. Exam preparation includes understanding task formats and practising how to respond with confidence.

Suggested ZES pathway

Pre A1 Starters: Grade 1 and learners around ages 8–9 beginning their English journey. A1 Movers: typically Grades 3–4 with a stronger foundation. A2 Flyers: typically upper elementary, including Grade 6, and middle school learners ready for A2. B1 Preliminary for Schools: a separate next-stage qualification for learners ready for B1, including suitable Grade 6 and middle school students.

Start at the right level

These grades are academy guidance, not official eligibility rules. Placement depends on English ability and readiness, not age alone. We discuss the learner’s current skills and goals before recommending a course.

Placement first, then the right class

New students at ZES English take a placement test before joining a class. We use the results to recommend a suitable level and class, then help each learner build the skills needed for the next stage. Students do not have to start at the same level simply because they are in the same grade.

Mock Cambridge tests before the real exam

We hold mock Cambridge tests in the academy so learners can practise the exam format, timing and tasks in a familiar setting. We review the results, identify areas needing more practice and guide preparation before students take the official Cambridge exam when ready.

School & Exam English

Schoolwork and exam preparation

Support for Korean school English: midterms (중간고사), finals (기말고사), and mock exams (모의고사) where relevant to the student’s school stage. Lessons focus on the school’s exam range, textbook passages, vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension.

Focused support during exam periods

During midterm and final preparation, our Korean expert manager supports students with explanations suited to Korean school exams. Students can work through difficult questions, review mistakes and practise applying grammar and reading strategies.

Bring your school materials

Bring your textbook, exam scope and recent questions to the consultation so we can discuss suitable preparation. Alongside exam work, students continue developing practical English skills.

Adult Speaking

From first words to advanced conversation

For adults starting from the very beginning, returning to English, or developing more fluent conversation. Our native English director oversees speaking development and brings more than nine years of English teaching experience in Korea.

Practical, guided speaking

Build useful everyday expressions, pronunciation and listening through guided conversation, travel scenarios and role-play. More advanced learners practise explaining opinions, telling stories and discussing a wider range of topics, with feedback on clarity and natural phrasing.

Live feedback from the native English director

The native English director listens as you speak and gives live feedback on pronunciation, sentence structure, word choice and natural expressions. You can ask questions, try an expression again and practise using the feedback in conversation. The aim is to help you express your own ideas more clearly, step by step.

Nervous about speaking? Start comfortably

You do not need perfect English to begin. If you feel shy or afraid of making mistakes, the director helps you start with manageable questions and familiar topics, gives you time to respond and builds practice around your level. Business & Corporate English

English for real workplace situations

For professionals who need clearer, more confident communication with colleagues, clients and overseas contacts. The director’s teaching experience includes learners from Doosan Enerbility, KET (Korea Energy Terminal), KHNP (Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai, Hyundai Motor, S-OIL, KC Chemical, Korea East-West Power and KOEN (Korea South-East Power). His teaching experience also includes Puruni Education, the University of Ulsan and other corporate learners.

Communication you can practise

Practise meetings, presentations, negotiation, professional email and explaining your work. Speaking activities can include clarifying information, making proposals, expressing disagreement politely and discussing solutions. Develop professional vocabulary and idiomatic expressions with attention to when they are appropriate.

Discuss your role, current English level and communication goals so lessons can focus on relevant situations. Advanced speaking and TOEIC or IELTS speaking preparation can be discussed during consultation.
